Museums such as the Don Bosco Museum, Air Force Museum, the Ever-Living Museum Rhino Heritage Museum, Lakes such as Ward’s Lake and Umiam lake, waterfalls such as the Elephant Falls and Sweet falls, and additional tourist attractions such as Cathedral of Mary, Shillong peak, Lady Hydari park are the top places to go within the city. At least two full days is needed to cover Shillong as well. It is best to make sure that Sundays are not an option because many of the places like museums close on Sundays.

The tiny village of Mawlynnong is a hidden gem that tourists usually make the error of only visiting just for a few hours. Walking around the tiny village with just 100 houses and chatting with the residents of Mawlynnong is a great way to end your trip if an avid reader. The social system and the community governance practices are informative and the tiny village is just beautiful. We recommend staying at minimum an evening in Mawlynnong unless you plan to hike into the nearby forests, which could be anywhere from a few days to a week based on how far you want to go. Other tips to plan your Meghalaya trip
- The mobile connectivity may be weak in remote areas like Mawlyngbna. Additionally, in many other villages you will get mobile networks but internet connectivity will be extremely slow. There are 4G connections within Shillong, Cherrapunjee and nearby regions.
- You can find ATMs across the state, but carrying cash is recommended as credit cards will not be accepted in the majority of remote areas.
- If you are planning to visit in January, be prepared for colder temperatures. It can be very cold at night as well as good winds, particularly in the vicinity of Shillong therefore pack your woolens in a suitable manner. Cherrapunjee or other locations close to Bangladesh are generally warm because of the plains that surround them.
